Probably better known as Iris's mom (because her daughter is so darn cute!), Erica has slinging beers at Rosko's for over a year. We love Erica because she's super down-to-earth, she's kind to the customers, and she's cool to hang out with. Erica is a hard working momma, holding down a full time job while filling on the weekends at Rosko's. Read more about how she got started at Rosko's, what she's learned, and what her favorite beers are.
🍻 Erica's Rosko’s Story
How did you first get connected to Rosko’s?
I’ve known Taylor [Rosko's head brewer] for a really long time and I needed another job. Taylor has been my brother's best friend since 6th grade, so we know each other very well.
What’s your favorite memory working here so far?
Caitlin and I worked a really busy weekend early in my working here. We crushed it and that was really rewarding.
What makes Rosko’s different from other places you’ve worked?
I feel like a lot of places claim that they are a family. But Rosko’s really is a family. I feel like I could come in the bar and always be comfortable with the bartender and feel safe. The customers here are also amazing. They know the environment that they are walking into, but they also appreciate the way that we function. It is just such a welcoming place.
How would you describe the vibe at Rosko’s in three words?
Welcoming
Fun
Eclectic
🍺 Beer-Centered
What was the first Rosko’s beer you ever tried?
Rosko’s Lager
What’s your favorite Rosko’s beer of all time and why?
Shadow Self. I love dark beers, but it’s not heavy like one. It has the taste of a heavier beer without being too much.
What’s a common beer misconception you love helping guests understand?
All IPA’s are hoppy and bitter. So untrue. You can make an IPA that is smooth and balanced.
How do you help someone who says, “I don’t like beer”?
That has happened and it was the Czech Lager that I recommended. Or I'll hear, “I can drink a light beer,” and I can usually find something they like. With the Czech beer, it has a nice and sweet foam that stays on top while as you drink. I recommended they try a sample, and said, "if you don’t like it, I can make you a cocktail."
🍻 Guest & Community Focus
What’s the most fun interaction you’ve had with a guest?
On Sundays, it’s becoming a regular thing of some local brewers and local regulars go around and play music that we want to listen to. Usually its heavy metal, but we do change it back to something more chill when people come in!
What’s your favorite event at Rosko’s and why?
Outdoor music in general because you can bring your dogs and kids. Usually, we have awesome bands.
🌟 Growth & Passion
What have you learned about beer since working here?
1. The importance of foam/head. It sets the tone for the rest of beer and is way more influential than I thought
2. There are so many different types and styles than I ever thought imaginable. If you are a beer drinker, you have to try everything to really experience the beer world.
🍺 Fun Questions
What’s your “shift beer” after a long night currently?
Cerna Dira [Czech Dark Lager]
What song should always be playing when you work?
"Home" by Phillip Phillips
